Screen Record not recording all steps/actions

Jun 06, 2018

I'm trying to screen record some simple steps in Outlook:

  1. When you are in your inbox see if you have a column called Size, if it’s missing
  2. Right Click within column heading area
  3. Click Field Chooser
  4. Scroll down the list, then click Size,
  5. Drag the Size field towards the column headings,
  6. When the red arrows appear drop the selected field, for example between Subject and Received.
Or you can drop the field in any position/order you prefer.
  7. You will now see the new column displaying the size of each email.  To put your emails in size order, click on the size column header, an arrow appears pointing downwards next to the size heading and this displays the largest emails at the top.
You will need to repeat this process for all subfolders

When tested before recording it works fine in Outlook but when recording the steps in SL2 (same is happening in 360) its not displaying the red arrows which indicate where you can drop the field.  Before moving to Windows 10 it was also delaying the drag of the field across the screen.

Any ideas

Hi Sati,

I don't have Outlook to be able to test this out myself, but wanted to check if this was a local access to Outlook or if you're using the web-based version?

If you're using the web version, I'd look at what browser you're recording in. For example, Google Chrome communicates very little information to the Windows Accessibility API, which is how Articulate Storyline collects information for screen recordings.  For the best results, I'd use Internet Explorer to record your screencast. It provides the richest data set. (Firefox also works well.)

If you're recording a local version of Outlook, I've seen a difference in permissions cause issues with recording data. You'd want to make sure you've installed and are running Storyline and Outlook with the same permissions, such as running as an admin. That should allow you to capture a larger set of data.

Let us know if you're still running into trouble after checking into those pieces!
