Selected state in quiz not working

Jan 17, 2024

Hi,

I'm working on a course that is entirely quiz based. Previously when I had been working on the course the 'selected' state seemed to work fine - user has submitted questions for the quiz, but wants to go back and look at answers they have submitted or re-read the feedback. I had changed colouring on the selected state to be a bold colour compared to the others.

Now I have done some more work on the course, the selected state is only showing up when it is actively selected prior to clicking submit. When the user goes to revisit the slide by using the menu or prev buttons it shows formatting of the 'disabled' state but with the selected option indicated with the radio circle.

I have tried:

- having no triggers and assuming that a 'selected' quiz option would show up as selected

- creating triggers 'Set state of Radio button 4 to Selected when the user clicks Submit, if the state of Radio button 4 = Selected'

- rearranging the order of triggers for the 'submit' button.

- trying changing Revisiting status: both Resume saved state and Automatically decide

-  creating other versions of a trigger after watching/reading other issues with states not working

- going into edit states and re-colouring the selected state

Other things I have done/have had issue with (also submitted a discussion question) - using the Format painter to copy formatting for quiz answer choices (resulted in text being copied into down, disabled and hover states).

Thanks

What you're seeing is how Storyline was programmed to work.

When a question is being reviewed (that is, it cannot be re-answered during that visit to the slide), Storyline disables all of the answers. For the answer that the user selected, Storyline combines the Selected and Disabled states. However, the Disabled state has priority. One result of that combination is that the fill color of the Disabled state shows instead of the fill color for the Selected state.

However, if you add a glow effect to the Selected state, that will show during a review, because the glow goes beyond the outline of the Disabled state. Here's an example:

Note: The default placement of the answers aligns with the edges of the Multiple Choice box. Glows won't show beyond those edges. But if you adjust the answers away from the edges, you'll see the full glow effect.
