Show/hide objects with triggers
Feb 04, 2016
Hi all, I'm fairly new to Storyline and am trying to build a sample course module in it. I've run into an issue for which I haven't been able to find a solution via tutorials or forums.
On my slide, I had shapes titled Action, Condition, and Standard. I created text boxes with the respective definitions for each (these were to be hidden until the shapes were clicked). I would like to display the definition for Action when I click the Action shapes. When I click Condition, I would like for the Action definition to be hidden, and the Condition definition to appear.
I've tried putting the text boxes on separate layers and creating triggers that show/hide them, but have not had success, nor have I had success simply trying to change the state of the text boxes with triggers when all text boxes are on the base layer. I've even tried variables; no such luck. I've deleted triggers and have a clean slate. Can anyone suggest the simplest way to build a slide like this?

Hi Natalie,
I would use a combination of a button set and layers.
First put your three buttons into one button set. Put each definition on its own layer.
Then, put a trigger on each button that opens up a layer for their respective definition.
Then, make sure each layer is set to hide other layers.
I have attached an example, let me know if you have more questions.

Deanna- this totally makes sense! I hadn't noticed the "Hide other layers" box. Plus, I just noticed there were actions on two of my layers that were hiding other layers when the timeline was restarted. Removed those and it worked perfectly! Thanks so much!
