Slide navigation issue

Oct 29, 2012

I have a couple of basic Storyline questions that I can't seem to figure out.

1. I have 2 scenes in a project. How do I set "free naviagtion" on the first scene and "restricted navigation" on the second scene? Is there a way to grey out the prev and next buttons until end of timeline?

2. In a slide with multiple markers with individual audio clips, how do I program the audio to end if user clicks ahead to another marker before first audio ends? Right now all my audio clips overlap if user clicks through the markers too fast.

3. I can't find where or how to add a hanging indent for a text box on the ruler.

4. Looks like custom line spacing is missing in Storyline - where I could add space before and after lines. Not the same as universal line spacing. Is custom line spacing not an option?

That's it for now. This is my first storyline project and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed so thanks for your help.

Hi Debbie,

Here are some answers that I hope are helpful:

1. I have 2 scenes in a project. How do I set "free naviagtion" on the first scene and "restricted navigation" on the second scene? Is there a way to grey out the prev and next buttons until end of timeline?

The navigation method you choose in your player properties will apply to your whole course. Right now there isn't a way to apply a different navigation method to different scenes, but that would make a great feature request. Regarding restricting the behavior of the Prev/Next buttons till the end of the timeline: there isn't currently a way to gray them out, but you can place conditions on when/if they are functional. I think this tutorial from David Fair will help: https://player.vimeo.com/video/145579034

2. In a slide with multiple markers with individual audio clips, how do I program the audio to end if user clicks ahead to another marker before first audio ends? Right now all my audio clips overlap if user clicks through the markers too fast.

If you insert your audio as part of the marker itself, this shouldn't be happening. When one marker opens, the other should close and its associated audio should stop. Make sure that you're adding your audio to the marker and not to the slide. (Select the marker, then go to the Marker Tools Format tab on the ribbon, and choose Sound.) If your audio has been added in that way and you're still encountering overlapping audio, would you mind submitting a support case so we can take a look?

3. I can't find where or how to add a hanging indent for a text box on the ruler.

The ruler in Storyline doesn't currently offer the ability to apply hanging indents or tabs. Are you wanting to apply automatic numbering or bullets? With those features, the hanging indent happens automatically.

4. Looks like custom line spacing is missing in Storyline - where I could add space before and after lines. Not the same as universal line spacing. Is custom line spacing not an option?

Custom spacing isn't currently supported. This too would make a great feature request.

Jeanette,

Thanks for the quick reply. I fixed my audio trigger problem with your help.

I submitted a feature request for ruler tabs, hanging indent and custom line spacing.

Any chance there is a keyboard shortcut to go through the slides? Page up and page down do not work, and the arrow keys do not work consistently.

I’m a tried and true PPT/Articulate Presenter user, so I feel lost without some of my old tricks. L

Thanks.

Debbie

Hi Debbie, are you wondering about a keyboard shortcut for advancing through the slides in your published content? Or are you asking about jumping to a specific slide when you're authoring content?

If it's the former, you can actually set up a keyboard shortcut by using a simple trigger on your slide master. Here's a bit more about that

If it's the latter, I don't believe there's a specific keyboard shortcut for moving among slides, but here's a list of other keyboard shortcuts that you might find useful.

Hope that helps!
