Slide Triggers

I am always looking to improve my skills and therefore look at other peoples work which is where I came across this:
Slide trigger
'Set section equal to 1.00
when timeline starts'
I cannot for the life of me see what this does, by changing '1' to 0 or 50 it seems to make no difference.
Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hi,
We use our own topic/section progress (i.e. not started, started, completed) which is displayed our own menu within a course.
0=not started
1=started
2=completed/passed
9= failed
Could be similar?

Without seeing the grander picture/file of what's happening - I'm assuming it's a way to help the learner see where they are in the course. Maybe instead of adding to the variable, which could have issues if the user is able to click the previous button (ie. restart a slide's timeline and therefore adjust the variable again) this version sets it to a specific value each time the slide starts?
