Spacebar activates slide change

Jun 24, 2015

I suddenly noticed that certain slides within a program will change when the space bar is pressed, as though the user had clicked on the next button.

Has anyone experienced this unscheduled, unintended issue?  If so, do you have a solution for how to avoid it?

Thanks

Hi Dustin,

I haven't seen this behavior and would want to take a look at the file where you're experiencing this behavior. I know that the space bar or enter key can trigger player actions such as the next/prev button as a part of an accessibility feature - so that the user could navigate the course with the tab key and enter to advance forward/back. But if it's only happening on certain slides, again we'll likely want to take a look. You can share a copy of the .story file here and please let us know where you're testing the published output as well.

Hi Ashley, thanks for your response. Since the spacebar appears to be pre-programmed by default to behave as the Enter key does (if I'm interpreting other staff comments elsewhere correctly), I decided to program the caption toggle to the C key instead and discovered that there may actually be a bug with caption toggling triggers in general. Just so you don't think I'm ignoring you, and in case this helps someone who views this thread later, I thought I'd post a link to that thread here: https://community.articulate.com/discussions/articulate-storyline/programming-triggers-for-space-bar-to-toggle-captions-on-off#reply-502690. If you have any thoughts on this problem, feel free to comment there. Thanks!

Hi Chris,

Is this happening only for specific slides in your course or on each slide?

With your permission, I'd like to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening. You can share it publicly here, or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll share my findings and delete the file when I'm done troubleshooting!
