Story File Missing

Jun 05, 2014

Can you pull the .story file out of the published folder or zip file? I cannot find the .story file that i created to open it back up.

Hello Sandi and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

I'd treat it like any other project/file and save regularly.

The .story file isn't included in the published output.

Did you save a copy prior to publishing? If not, Storyline does not do an automatic save, but you may be able to find a copy of it inside your temp folders.

Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Hope that helps!

Hi Sandi!  Just to add, when you save your project in Storyline, it typically saves to your Documents > My Articulate Projects folder.  If you open your work, do a Save As, and you'll see the directory where your project is saved.  You can change it if you'd like!

If you have trouble finding your .story files, another thing I recommend is to open File Explorer, highlight the C: drive, and search for *.story .  That should pull up any of your .story files saved locally to your machine.
