Storyline 3 - Close Caption Wrapping Box - Color, Size, Position + Logo

Dec 16, 2022

Hi,

1- Is it possible to change the wrapping box color, size and position used for close caption at Storyline 3?  I have played around but I can't see anything like that.

2- In another topic, how can I avoid a close caption text displayed rolling up while the next text is coming to the 2nd text line? See screencast (please to disregard the voice breaking since I was in edit mode).  Once the close caption is displayed, it should disappear but not rolling up.

3- Player allows you to insert a logo but it disappears once you leave the first slide.  How can I let this LOGO to remain for the whole presentation or selected slides?

Thanks,

Hi Carlos,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm happy to assist you with these questions.

  1. You can format the caption text by making it bold, italic, or underlined. You can also change the font size in your player properties. Currently, you're unable to change the format and placement of the closed caption box. We have a feature request logged for customization options for closed captions, so I'll share your voice with the team!
  2. Thank you for the screencast! I'm a bit confused by what you mean when you say the text displayed is rolling up. If you're willing to share your file with us, I'll be happy to take a closer look! You can upload it here or privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once troubleshooting is complete.
  3. Lastly, one way to include the logo on each new slide in your course is to use insert it on the slide master. To access the slide master, select View on the top ribbon, then Slide Master.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have additional questions!

Hi Kelly, thanks so much,

1- Please note the closed caption is enclosed into a dark grey box.  How do I change that including color?

2-  Roll-up captions continuously roll up onto your screen, one right under the next, allowing for more time for the viewer to read them. The very top line disappears each time a new line populates.  This will make very difficult to follow since you will need to read only the 1st or 2nd one but not both in order to keep track of the narrative (look to the screencast).  I'd like only to show up 1 or 2 lines but they need to disappear when the next caption appears (Pop-on closed caption)

Hi Carlos,

There isn't a way to change the color of the closed caption box, but my colleague Kelly has already included this thread in a feature request that we have open for the addition of more customization options for captions in Storyline 3.

Regarding the roll up of the captions on screen, this is what I see on my end for videos that have captions:

My sample file showed captions one after the other, without the text rolling up. Would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a look at how you have your captions setup? We'll delete it afterwards!
