Storyline 3 Video Sizing issue

Jun 26, 2017

I'm having an issue with SL3 not maintaining the size of the video I'm trying to insert.  I have imported the video and have stretched it just slightly to meet the size of my canvas.  Once I preview it - the video has "grown" somewhat.  I've included a video which better illustrates my issue

Hey George, thanks for including the screen recording. That's definitely not what we'd expect to happen, so let's narrow this down.

If you're still getting stuck, shoot your file over to us by clicking here. We'll help you get this sorted out!

Alyssa, I hope you are well, answers to your questions follow:

  • I am working off my local drive.
  • I have followed the proper steps to insert the video
  • I have completed the SL3 repair.
  • I also didn't notice that SL3 did not convert the original video from .mov to MP4
  • As a result I did the convert myself to see if that was the issue.  I was not.
  • I also tried a fresh template (I just opened up SL3 and used a default blank slide)
  • The template I am using for this build is quite old and was originally made in SL2 and as such I wanted to rule out that as being the issue.

Hey George,

Thanks for letting me know what you've already ruled out! I did a bit of digging, and I found that this is an issue we're working on in Storyline 360, and it looks like it's also popped up in Storyline 3. The good news is, the video plays normally in the published output. You'll only see the expanded video in Storyline Preview.

I'll let you know as soon as we get an update on this issue. Thanks again for bringing it up, and I'm sorry if it has caused you headaches!

Hey, George! I'm excited to let you know that we just released update 3 for Storyline 3! It includes new features and fixes - check them all out here.

One of the fixes addresses an issue where lots of videos in a course could cause slides to lag or lock up in HTML5 output, and they could be sized or positioned incorrectly during preview.

Here’s where you can download and install the latest version of Storyline 3. Let me know how you make out!
