Storyline Autoformatting 'x' to Multiply

Apr 11, 2023

Hi all,

Minor thing, and more a curio tbh.

I've just noticed Storyline autoformats a lower case 'x' to a multiplication x when it finds the character between two numbers, even if separated by a space.

Is it possible to type such a string (e.g. 4 x 4) without the 'x' being converted to a multiply symbol?

The screenshot I've posted shows the multiply symbol appearing in the top line with the lower case 'x' underneath as a letter.

Kind regards.

Hi Sam,

Great question! I understand that when you type an "x" between two numbers it automatically formats it as a multiplication symbol. I’m happy to work with you to figure out why this is happening! I have a few follow-up questions regarding the situation so I can understand what you are experiencing a little better.

  • Which version of Storyline are you using? I am using Storyline version 3.74.30180.0.
  • Is it happening in every file or just this one?
  • The text in the screenshot you shared looks pretty common. Is there anything special about how your file is set up?

I’ve attached a Story file that I created in Storyline 360. The "x" displays as a standard character when typed between two numbers. Do you mind importing it into Storyline 360 on your end to see if you notice the same behavior? Can you retype the "x" and see if there's a change?

Thanks for reaching out and I look forward to your response!
