Storyline Score not showing on results slide...and when I fix it, then nothing reports for score in LMS

May 21, 2015

Hello,

I'm using a quiz bank (all questions in bank) and a graded results slide.  Result slide parameters are set to: (1) checkmark @ use q's from quiz bank (2) 90% passing score (3) show user score, passing score, allow review, display correct on review).  When I test in preview, nothing shows on slide.  Same when published.

Noticed what appeared to be a possible variable problem cited by another person (see example from my course - attachment 1).  Removed the second row of text in parenthesis for each scoring variable.  When I did, then scoring shows on results slide.  See attachment 2.

Note:  I have tried to delete variables that are shown multiple times for scoring in the variable library (I've deleted and added the quiz bank and results slide a few times).  I'm not allowed to delete any scoring variables, even if they appear to be duplicated.  Thought this might be causing confusion but nothing I can do about it.

Upon publish (after scoring fixed) and upload to LMS (BVS), no score reports in LMS.  Settings:  complete/incomplete  Tracking:  Use Quiz Result from slide 5.3 (only quiz results slide in file).  I can see the the course was "used" but there is no indication in the LMS report that an exam was completed.

Please help me figure out what's causing the issues.  BTW, I'm using version 5.1505.515 and when I check for updates, the response is "no updates available."

You solved this part, correct?

So you have a question bank and a single results slide. The result slide is set to track all questions from the bank. This will affect the Results.ScorePercent% variable and whatever you set as the passmark will affect Results.PassPercent%. On completing the quiz the results slide will display the 2 values.

As for publishing the course for LMS are you packaging the course as a SCORM if so what version have you checked your tracking settings etc in the final dialogue box. Another thing to do is use SCORM Cloud to run your course and test its tracking outside of the LMS to sanity check the course without the LMS.

Hi, thanks for your reply.  I solved the score display, but I'm not sure why every time I add a results slide in this course, it shows up with an extra line of text in the variables.  The extra line of text seems to be causing the score display problem in the course.  I do understand the relationship between the scoring and passing variables - that's not the problem.  It's the extra line of text on the results slide that has not appeared in prior Storyline 2 courses I've developed.  I'm wondering if, by deleting the extra lines and fixing the problem in the course, that's causing the reporting problem in the LMS.  Fix one, break the other?

For LMS publishing, the course is packaged as a SCORM 1.2 which is accepted by the LMS.  Other Storyline 2 courses have been uploaded to the LMS and scoring works perfectly.  Tracking and reporting settings are set as specified by the LMS team - I have already spoken with them to determine if anything changed on their end and no, reporting is by complete/incomplete and tracking is based on results reported on the results slide.

I will try SCORM cloud as long as my IT department approves its use.  Since I will have to go through the IT process, I was hoping to find a quicker solution if someone else has encountered the same problem.

Hi JoElla,

I'm not sure what you mean by "extra line of text in the variables" - things in your images look normal for how the results slide is showing. You should be able to remove those references on the slide if you like - and they'll still report the values to the LMS as long as you keep the "submit results" trigger.

If you're able to test in SCORM Cloud and things work as you'd expect, than you'll want to follow up with your LMS team.

Hi - I had to remove the extra line of text or the score would not report - this was a consistent problm when developing this course - every time I re-created the results slide, if that other line was shown, no score was reported.  The SCORM cloud test worked.  The LMS folks did get back to me and the problem is that a passing score must be achieved before a score displays in the LMS.  I wanted to capture first time results, but oh well...
