Also, I am starting a project with an external provider to develop some content and I would like them to deliver the source files at the end of the project. In particular I want to have the template (skin?) with all the colors, logo, banners that I will be able to reuse afterwards. But I don't know yet how this is called in Storyline. What should I ask for?
If you're looking to have the source files from the designer you'll likely want the .story file. If you need player specific elements (where the logo typically is) you'll need to have them share the player and colors as detailed here.
