Storyline won't publish to video.

Feb 22, 2024

I have a storyline file that won't publish to video. The progress bar gets close to the end and it just sits there. I tried publishing just one slide and it sat there for over an hour before I canceled it.

  • There is only one scene to the file.
  • The scene has 52 slides
  • The only trigger on the slide is "Jump to next slide when timeline on this slide ends." I get the same error when I remove the trigger.
  • Each slide has a storyline created text-to-speech audio using Matthew. I get the same error when removing the audio.
  • I tried just publishing one slide and it won't publish it, keeps getting the same error.
  • I tried restating my computer.
  • I tried a different storyline file.
  • I tried taking virtually every element out.
  • I made sure my Articulate 360 was up to date

 Is this a known issue?

Hi Errol!

Sorry to hear you're having trouble publishing a Storyline course to video! I'd be happy to help!

Thank you for sharing all of the troubleshooting steps you've tried so far. If you've confirmed that you are working locally, and a repair of your Storyline installation doesn't do the trick, would you be comfortable sharing a copy of your .story file for testing on our end?

Feel free to attach it here in the discussion or privately through a support case. We'll delete it from our system as soon as we've finished!

Hi Steven!

Thanks for your response. Yes, I'm working locally. But I found out what the issue was.

I'll detail it out for future reference to those who might have similar issues.

I read earlier somewhere that triggers in slides can cause errors when publishing to video. I had removed all of the triggers that were in the course, and I still kept getting the errors.

But just as I was about to send you my file, I remembered that for accessibility standards, we have a trigger built into our master slides that will auto pause the the slides when the timeline starts on the slide. The users has two options:

  • 1. The users can switch on a toggle button on the title slide that will make all of the slides in the course auto play, as they advance through the course.
  • 2. The users can leave the toggle switch off on the title slide. In this case, the users will need to click play on each slide, as they advance through the course.

I went into the master slide and disabled those triggers. And now it will publish the file to video.

So, bottom line, if you're having issues publishing your file to video, look in the master slides for triggers that may be causing issues.

Thanks for reaching out!
