Student "Note Taking" facility...
Aug 03, 2012
Here's something I just came across with a client using Quizmaker/Presenter.
Often, we want to provide the facility for Students to take notes in a course, so I came up with this. I have seen the occasional post about it here, and elegant and beautiful solutions may in fact already exist.
Anyway - here's a sort of un-elgeant and rather scruffy embryonic rough and ready conceptual proof-of-concept that may benefit from added robustness. Bottom-line - I'm sure it could be developed further.
Basically, use an "Essay" style Quiz as a hidden "Notebook".

Just needs to have Printing and the ability to save (safely) added, however, I thought it might fire off some ides from other people.

Hi Bruce,
The idea of note taking is interesting and I've had clients insist on that feature at my previous company. We had a notes tab built into our architecture (custom XML based solution). However, the client insisting that there be a Notes section and the actual likelihood of a student using it are 2 different things. What's your experience been with people actually using a Notes option?
Hi Dave,
I have never actually come across it until today, however, I am assured by my client that it is something that their students use when taking their professional training.

How are you planning to save the data? Is the data going to be stored by the LMS so each time they leave and come back they can see their notes?
This appears to be how it works, and they print it too.

I have incorporated a note-taking button in my modules for iPad and it works great! I am now working on finding a way to incorporate the notes from the "Learning Log" to an auto-populated email using variables and HTML. I'm close...
