I am having a brain dead moment. I closed my trigger panel and can't for the life of me find where to reopen it. None of the arrows on that side of the screen are doing the job.
If you're using the click and drag to bring the trigger panel back, you won't see the panel appear until you release it somewhere within the slides - the bar indicating how far out it goes does turn grey as you'll see in this screenr.
If you're not able to pull it back out, I'd follow Kevin's suggestion to shut down and restart Storyline, or conduct a repair of Storyline.

Thanks for the info but its not working. I get the arrow/crossbar, click and try dragging but all I see is that little space turns gray when I click.
