Tab Order and Alt Text

Feb 05, 2018

When setting up Tab Order and Alt Text, can someone confirm for me the following? In these two examples, will the screen reader read the entire thing or only the text in quotes?

Shape

Overview - Title "Tools you'll use"

Overview - Button Notification Center "Notification Center"

We do not have a screen reader installed yet but want to move forward with working on projects.

Thank you!

Hi Ashley,

In the Tab Order window, the table called Include in Tab Order has two columns. The first column is titled Shape. In that column, Articulate 360 automatically lists items on the page.

Example

* Shape column reads ... Tools you'll use - Title "Tools you'll use"

* In my timeline, the corresponding object is a text box named Title

* On the page, the text box reads ... Tools you'll use

For example

* Shape column reads ... Tools you'll use - Button Notification Center "Notification Center"

* In my timeline, the corresponding object is a button named Button Notification Center.

* On the page, the button reads ... Notification Center

I am wondering if I need to add Alternate text or will the screen reader read this way?

* Text Tools you'll use

* Button Notification Center

Hi Sandy!

Here's an example of the Tab Order window:

In this example, the screen reader will read "Star" when the focus is on the Star object. This is because the word "Star" was added to the Alternate Text column.

If an object doesn’t have alternate text, screen readers will read the name of that object as it appears in the timeline.

Let me know if that answers your question!

Hi Alyssa - yes, thank you.
