Text entry to advance WITHOUT pressing other keys such as Enter or Tab

Jul 27, 2020

I've seen this brought up in a number of previous discussions but have not come across a resolution. I need the learner to be able to enter a specific text string, e.g. 1234, and then I want to trigger a new layer or slide. They should not have to press Enter or Tab or cause the field (hotspot) they're on to lose focus. Also, I don't want it to advance when they hit 4 if the entire string isn't correct. This is a simulation of how a private software works and I need to recreate it exactly.

I've seen a number of postings from others dealing with the same situation, but I haven't spotted a resolution.

Hi there, Joanne!

Thanks for taking the time to share your goal with us.

To submit a text-entry response, it needs to lose focus either with a key press or by navigating outside of the text-entry field. This gives Storyline an indication that a learner is done typing their response.

JavaScript is likely perfect for this design. I'll open the floor to the coders in the community who may have set this up!
