The Screen Size Look in Preview Mode?

May 17, 2022

I'm somewhat of a S3 newbie here and I'm trying to make sure that I've got my basics covered regarding slide size. I have my slide dimensions set to fill the page of a user's browser, but when I preview the slide, it looks quite different.

In preview mode, the slide doesn't fill my whole screen,
as it should when an end-user sees it.

Any suggestions regarding what I'm doing wrong?

(Please see attachments below)

Thanks for your help!

(p.s. Is there a link for tutorials in Storyline 3?)

Hi Rand, and welcome to the E-Learning Heroes community! ✨

I think this article on changing your slide size in Storyline 3 will be helpful to you in getting your slide to fill the page of a user's browser.

Do you know which browser they are using to view your course? Here are the Storyline 3 system requirements, including browser specifications.

And here's the Articulate Storyline 3 User Guide for your reference.

I hope that helps! Please let me know if you need additional assistance; I'm happy to help!

Thanks for all the info Andrea, you are a gem.

It's been about 8 years since I last used Storyline and
it's all new to me now. But I know the links you sent
are really going to help out.

I've got soooo many more questions, but hopefully the
S3 User Guide link will answer many of those questions.

++++

But if I may, I have some "Mac" related questions.

When I first began with Storyline, I purchased a PC
for the sole purpose of using it with Storyline.

But since then, I've gone all in with Apple and no longer have a PC.

So I've now got the latest version of Parallels, running with Windows 10.

Q1:  Am I going to have a problem with that setup?
Is it okay to use S3 on my Mac with Parallels...or
am I just asking for a huge headache down the road?

I don't want to get a few hundred hours deep into this new S3 build
only to find out somehow something wasn't compatible and I have to
start all over again.

Or I don't want to find out that just using a PC
in the beginning would have made it way easier
than using Parallels.

++++

Q2:  And if Parallels is okay, are their fixed settings within it
that I absolutely have to configure in just the right way
for it to work?

++++

And finally...

Q3:  My course will have a lot of documents that I've already
created on my Mac. Will S3 (working on Parallels) let me
        use those Mac Documents?

        If so, how?

Thanks again SO much for your help Andrea.

It's Support Staff like you that keeps me telling
others that Articulate is one of the finest pieces
of software I've ever come across.

All the best,

Hi again Rand, and thank you for your kind words!

Great questions on using parallels on your Mac! I hope I can help work through them with you.

Q1:  Am I going to have a problem with that setup? Is it okay to use S3 on my Mac with Parallels...or am I just asking for a huge headache down the road?

Although many of our users would like a version of Articulate 360 for Mac, it's not something that is on our roadmap currently.

That being said, we have many users who have great success working in Storyline on a Mac with parallels.

Here's a user guide of best practices for using Storyline on a Mac with parallels

Q2:  If Parallels is okay, are there fixed settings within it that I absolutely have to configure in just the right way for it to work?

I think the article I mentioned in your first question will answer this question too! Let me know if you need additional information or clarification.

Q3:  My course will have a lot of documents that I've already created on my Mac. Will S3 (working on Parallels) let me use those Mac Documents?

I have a follow-up question for you to help answer this one!

  • What format are the documents you created on your Mac that you want to use in parallels?
Rand Rand

Thanks again Andrea for your answers and your quick reply.
I'll take a look at all the Parallelsinfo you sent.

As to what Mac Documents I wantto upload through Parallels to Articulate,
I'm referring to PDF's made on my Macas well as Word docs created on my Mac.
They're already created and would takeme a few weeks to retype them insidethe Windows environment.

I'm pretty-sure I've done that before.
I just can't remember if I used some kind of special software that allowed my Mac docs and PDF's to be read by Windows.

And as always, thanks in advance for you help!
All the best,

Hi Rand!

You can import into Storyline from a Microsoft Excel workbook or a text file. Since you mentioned Word documents, the text file option might be your best bet.

As for importing a PDF, you can use the “Jump to URL/File” trigger.

Before creating the trigger, make sure your PDF file is located on your local drive. Here's more information on the Jump to URL/File trigger.

Check out some other options available in this conversation.
