Timing Main Timeline with Imported Flash

May 09, 2013

Hello all,

I am building a Storyline course, and several slides have Flash animations that I created that are being loaded in and must match timing to the main timeline. (which includes a voiceover track) When I publish and launch from my hard drive, no problem...the timing is perfect. But when I publish to our LMS, the timing gets completely thrown off. The Flash file loads much later than desired, thus throwing off the timing of everything it is supposed to interact with on the main timeline of Storyline. Obviously the streaming isn't fast enough to keep up, and the Flash file significantly lags behind. I tried adding the voiceover track to the Flash animation instead of the Storyline timeine, but it just delays the loading of the Flash file even more.

Any thoughts on how I might improve the timing issues?

Thanks.

Scott

Hi Scott,

Well, without trying it out, it's difficult to say what's going on. It could be an issue with the content loading in the LMS, or it could be simply an issue with the Flash animations loading on a host.

It might help to test the course on a host, other than your LMS. First you could try testing on Tempshare and see if the same issues occur. Please keep in mind, though, this is not truly intended as a host and is only for testing purposes. Any content uploaded to this server will be removed in 10 days.

Another option would be to test the course in SCORM Cloud

If you still see issues with timing, it might be best to try to use a different format for the animations, or even try inserting them as a video instead. This depends on the type of Flash you're using, however, so I'm not sure if that would be an option for you.
