I want to have triggers activate when the user mouses over specific cells on a table. Is there any to do this?
I know I could insert invisible shapes over each cell but this seems clumsy and like a lot more work, and it'd cause problems if I want to move or re-scale the table.
This seems like a pretty common function, so I'm surprised I can't find any information.
The problem is that the table is seen as one object, not individual cells. When I have had to do this I have had that cell blank in the table and then just used a text box with the text I want, and then set that as the hyperlink text or object. Not ideal but necessary.
Okay. I tried making several invisible boxes over the table. It seems I can't group these. Why is that? Can you group the textboxes and the table using your method?
You can group them but if you want to keep the individual boxes as objects to be a hyperlink or such, they have to remain independent. Otherwise, a group will act as a group, not as independent objects.
Well this is a problem. I want to use tables because they handle spacing, however it seems like that's not going to work. I can't make any state changes to show that an individual cell is hovered over or any triggers for that cell.
No idea how I'm going to handle spacing if I'm just using text boxes on their own. It is pretty difficult to control their size.
I understand your pain. I keep the size and spacing window open at all times ad do a lot of moving via that so that things stay in line when I am doing grid type work.
So I have to precisely edit each box by pixel size for each cell. This is probably going to take hours just to align the boxes properly. Should I just not make the boxes change color when hovered? What is another way to indicate hovering?
Also, thank you Randy for your quick reply! You're exactly right. Storyline looks at tables as one object, so hovering over individual cells isn't a current feature.
Since "hover" is a built-in state, there isn't another built-in option for indicating when the user hovers over an object. If you're able to share your file, we could offer a more specific workaround!
