triggers in layers

Mar 26, 2014

HI

1  I had a slide with 5 layers, however i could not get a hotspot trigger on a 4th layer to work- it was   to go to a free form text slide  (I did make sure the hotspot box was brought to  the front)....

2  when I add triggers to transition from  this layer the trigger was not appearing on the layer list but on the base slide

3 Also I tried to copy the slide to then cut and paste the layers into new slides but it will not let me delete the base layer and use the next layers as the base

4 then I accidenetially deleted the slide and could not undo....before I start again...does anyone have advice

....Is there material not suitable for a layer?

Why does triggers added to a layer appear else where- on base layer?

is there a track to hot spots I am not understanding- I have put it over a text line

how to make sure work is saved and/or not permanent if need to undo

Thanks

Hi Sharon and welcome to Heroes!

It sounds like you've experienced some odd behavior, as there isn't a restriction on triggers on a layer and they should only appear on the layer not the base layer if you've set them up that way. There are some great tutorials here on working with triggers and working with layers.  Also, here's a tutorial on hotspots.

Since Storyline doesn't automatically save or back up files, you'll want to ensure you save regularly and back up your files as needed. It's also important to work on your local drive as described here as working on a network or USB drive could cause unusual or erratic behavior.

Lastly, you can't delete the base layer, but if you'd like to use elements from another layer on a new slide's base layer I'd copy the individual elements (select all and then copy if easier) and work from that.

It sounds like you don't have access to this file any longer but if you are able to recreate the behavior and would like to share it with us here we're happy to take a look and see if there is anything else going on or an underlying cause.
