Its bizarre - I was happily working away and must have clicked on something and have now lost my triggers section and layers sections. I have the icons still above the top, but not the quick access down the right hand side of each slide! I have looked for minimisaiton buttons but can't see anything, proably staring me right in the face!
If you hover your mouse over the right edge of the storyline window your cursor will change to two lines and two arrows. Click and drag to the left and when you get a hashed grey line appear let go and the panel will reappear.
It's just that the panel has a minimum width and if resize it to anything narrower than that it will collapse in to the edge of the window

It is very well hidden, I think we all panic when it happens first time
