Unanswered quiz question reports a learner response and result incorrectly

Feb 21, 2020

We have a course that has multiple quiz questions that are optional.  We do this so we can still get data in the LMS on questions that are answered and how they are answered.  We recently tracked down some strange behavior.

When a user visits the slide with the question, but does not make ANY selections, Storyline is still reporting a response to the LMS.

Reproduction steps:

  1. Learner navigates course and lands on a true/false quiz question slide
  2. learner does not make any selections, they use the TOC to navigate to a different section
  3. Storyline reports to LMS:
    1. Learner Response = false
    2. Correct Response= false
    3. result = incorrect

A learner response should not be reported to the LMS here.  Any ideas?

Hi Tom,

Thank you for reaching out and providing those details!

When working with quiz questions, only freeform questions can be marked as ungraded/optional. Learners must answer graded questions, so that might be what is happening here when learners skip those true/false questions. This guide provides additional details on assigning scores and making freeform questions ungraded
