Unrelenting errors when trying to import slides from PowerPoint

May 02, 2023

Hello!  I have been importing slides from PowerPoint for months.  Suddenly, I am getting an error "Failed to import PowerPoint presentation".  I clicked on the link "Find out why here".  None of the potential reasons stated by Articulate are behind this issue (https://articulate.com/support/article/Articulate-Storyline-360-Failed-to-Import-PowerPoint-Presentation).  I have done a complete uninstall/reinstall of both Microsoft Office and Articulate Storyline.  The problem still persists.  I was doing all of this on Sunday with no issues and then when I tried to do it on Monday, it no longer allows me to complete the process. Any ideas?  I have tried everything possible that I know of.

Hi Dana!

Sorry to hear you've run into this snag with getting your PPT files imported to a Storyline 360 course. I'd be happy to help troubleshoot the issue with you!

Would you be able to share your .PPT with me privately so I can test it out on my end?

In the meantime, I just had some clarifying questions to get a better idea of your setup:

  • Is your PowerPoint file saved locally to your C: drive?  Or do you access it from a shared/network drive?  I would suggest copying it to your C: drive and then trying to perform the import again.
  • Have you tried performing a repair of the Studio 360 tools? This article walks you through how to do that.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank you, Steven!  Because the PPT has trade secret material.  I cannot share it.  I am importing from my c: drive, not the network drives.  It is very strange because I was doing this exact same thing the day before, in the exact same way, and had no issues.  I will try the Studio 360 tools repair.

Hi Dana,

Sorry to hear that you are still experiencing the issue. It looks like you may be dealing with a PowerPoint presentation with a corrupted slide. One way to test is to use PowerPoint's reuse slides feature to import your slides to a new file one at a time.

By importing your slides in batches, you should be able to import a slide, test if the presentation will publish, and repeat the process until you encounter the corrupted slides which will cause your presentation to fail during publishing. Rebuilding the slide should address the issue.

Let me know if you have any questions!
