Does the zip file contain the published content or the editable .story file? You can VIEW the published content in a browser, but to make changes using the Storyline trial version, you do need the .story file.
Hi, R K - I agree with Michael; please confirm what type of file you are attempting to edit. Please note that the published output does not contain a file from which you could edit the original content. If the zipped file is the .story file, you will need to extract the file first in order to work on it.

I am trying to open it on my trial version as I need to do some modifications in the project but I cant open it.

It could be a storyline file that the mac is showing as a zipped file, does it have the .story extension
