Using Heading 1 Text Style for a slide title for accessibility purpose?

Mar 24, 2023

I cannot figure out if I should apply a Heading 1 Text Style to the titles of my elearning slides or not? When I use NVDA screen reader to test the functionality, I hear the reader first say the name of the slide based on how its titled above the Properties button, then it says "Blank," and then it reads it again as "Main landland heading level 1 (slide title)." Since the screen reader reads the title before it gets to the "main landmark," should I apply a Heading 1 text style to my screen titles? For example - see the red text in my attached screenshot. Should that be Heading Level 1 or leave as regular?

Hi Jennifer,

Thanks for reaching out!

While waiting for input from the community regarding their design practices, you can check out this article on how to design accessible courses in Storyline 360:

There's a section there titled 'Make Text Accessible' that you might find helpful!

Feel free to share your .story file in this thread so we can assist you better!

Hello Jennifer, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes!

Based on your shared image, you have the text designated as Heading 1. Yes, that's how I would do it.

I can also see that your slide title is similar, so that is what you're hearing first.

Is the icon in your focus order? I'm curious if that's the 'blank' you're hearing.
