Value not updating on button click

Hello! I am working on my first Storyline project, testing out a branched experience in which each character is faced with three options, then three more options based on their answer.

In this test I have only two final slides per character - correct and incorrect. To keep the learning experience moving forward, I want to limit the number of attempts per character to two. For the character Mike I have a variable CountMike created, which is supposed to increase by 1 each time the user clicks the "Try again button."

However, every time I preview the scene, the count remains at 0. I have attached my story file for anyone willing to check it out. The correct answer is always button 3.
