Variables Default Value Does NOT Change

Nov 28, 2012

When I set my variable to a value of 1 as the default, then later realized I needed to have it at 0, Storyline would not save the change. I think this is a bug with Storyline because I tried many times and saved, but the default variable value continued to stay the same.

I found a trick by deleting my original variable (copying the variable name before deleting). Then I created a new variable, pasted the name the same as the old one, and set the default to my desired setting (0). Hurray! It worked!

Someone at Articulate should look at this bug.

Hi Martin,

Would you mind offering a little more detail about how you're going about changing the variable? Are you using the trigger panel to manage your project variables? Manually changing the numeric variable text? Have you tried previewing / publishing the project after making the change to ensure the change did not take?

Any further details would be really helpful. Thanks a lot!

Hey Peter,

To change the default value of the variable, I went into the "x" button (Manage project variables). The Default Value is listed in the third column and I simply clicked on the value I wanted to change "1" and then selected "0". Clicked OK. I noticed that Storyline didn't respond with an asterisk in order to show changes have been made (to save the file).

I previewed and also published and it wouldn't change the default value for me. I had to delete it and input another variable with the same name to fix this.
