Video Freezing at 1 minute mark

Oct 13, 2023

We have multiple courses published to LMS and they all have videos in them. Recently we've been getting learner feedback that a video will freeze at the 1 minute mark. It doesn't matter how long the video is, it's always at 1 minute. The interesting thing is that after testing, it is the video timeline that freezes, but not the articulate timeline. So if it's a three minute video and they wait the full three minutes, the slide will then progress to the next slide. We've tested it in Firefox and it works perfectly, no freezing. We've also tested it in Chrome, mostly what our learners are using, and it freezes each time.

We've attempted to re-export the video and then re-import it intp Articulate. We've removed any and all triggers and cue points on the slide. We've re-published and re-uploaded to the LMS multiple times and now we're stumped. We're on version v3.73.301.19.0.

you could try

  • compress the video with Adobe Media Encoder or Handbrake to the desired web quality
  • import the videos
  • set for all videos "Compression None" (now storyline will not modify the video anymore)
  • set video publish setting to "static"

if there are still problems with chrome, they are not due to storyline or the videos - then the web server or proxy configuration is more likely the suspect

Hello Kristin,

Glad to see you getting awesome help from Jürgen. I also wanted to share that the version you're using is a couple of updates away from the most recent release. You can try updating your Storyline 360 installation to the latest version and republishing your course to see if this helps.

If the issue persists, try testing how your course behaves in a different LMS to test if the behavior you're experiencing is LMS specific. If your course works properly in a different LMS, you may need to work with your LMS provider to resolve the behavior on their end.

Using Jürgen's information, we were able to fix this issue. However, we have run into it again and when we try to select the compression, it is disabled. It doesn't matter if we insert a new video or if we replace the existing video that is giving us issues, the option for Compression is disabled.

Hi Kristin!

Sorry to hear that you've run into these setbacks again!

I'd be happy to take a closer look at your project file to see why certain video options are disabled. If you're comfortable, feel free to share a copy here in the discussion or privately through a support case.

In the meantime, have you tried performing a repair of your Storyline installation to see if that improves the behavior?

Looking forward to hearing from you!
