Video not working with player seekbar - Storyline v1

May 19, 2015

Hello community!

I am trying to use the built-in player's seekbar to control the video playing in the slide. Unfortunately, it is not working as expected - when I click on the seekbar it restarts the video from the beginning as opposed to jumping to where it should be in the timeline.

Example: The clip is 5 seconds long. Clicking 3/5 of the way through the seekbar should play the video at the 3 second mark, but instead the slide timeline continues at the 3 second mark but the video goes back to its beginning.

I've attached a sample slide from the project I'm working from. Can anyone help me figure out why this is happening and what I can do to correct it? Thanks!

A few other specifics:
- I have a transparent shape over the video to prevent users from being able to stop & start the video by clicking on it.
- I have a trigger set to, at the end of the timeline, to show a new layer asking the user to either proceed or watch the video from the beginning again.
- I have tried troubleshooting this in many ways: turning on/off the "Show Video Controls" option on the video, using the video's seekbar as opposed to the player's, attaching the "Show Layer" trigger to the video media as opposed to the timeline ending, removing the final layer, & more.

UPDATE: Turns out this is happening on clips ~5 seconds or less. Clicking anywhere on the seekbar within the first 5 seconds of the video brings the video to the beginning, regardless of what point the seekbar was actually clicked on. Not too big an issue (just a little buggy); is only a huge deal if you have a video clip ~5 seconds or less.

Hi Ashley - you're spot on! The original issue stemmed from when I was using some placeholder videos that were only 5 seconds long, therefore it seemed like clicking anywhere on the seekbar restarted the video. Luckily that's not the case.

I opened a case with Articulate Support regarding the issue - is that the best approach to take to possibly get it logged and patched up in a future update?

Thanks Steve - looks like John reported it to our QA team yesterday so we'll keep you posted here and in the case with any additional information/updates. We can't offer a time frame in regards to a fix, so we appreciate your patience and in the meantime, hopefully you'll still be able to use videos and the users can click around after 5 seconds! :-)
