Weird Thing on my Player Screen

Mar 03, 2016

Hello, community! You have always been so helpful in the past, and I'm counting on you now.

I just created a quick course from my normal course template and noticed something weird when I previewed it. The slide area does not fill the entire player window - there is a half-inch gap of dark gray between the top of my slide and the inside edge of the player window. I have NEVER seen that happen before and I cannot figure out what is up!!

Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Shari :-)

Hi, Shari -- Sorry to hear of your troubles! Can you please confirm that you are working locally as described here? Working on a network drive or an external (USB) drive can cause erratic behavior due to latency, such as file corruption, an inability to save changes, and loss of resources.

Can you please also let us know if you are testing your published output in the intended environment, as well? And it may be helpful to run through the troubleshooting steps listed here if issues persist.

Hi, Christie - thanks for your response.

I am working on my desktop and am publishing to an LMS. It is so strange...I have never had this occur before.  When I finished publishing and click to view the "View Project" button on the Publish Successful window, the web page opens with an orange "Launch" button (not typical) and I get the error message I've attached below. This is the same issue I experienced earlier this week when I tried publishing to SCORM 2004 instead of our normal 1.2. The problem with the screen display is new though.

I guess I have no choice but to ask my I.T. folks to run through the troubleshooting steps with me. It figures it knows I have a deadline to meet. :-)

Thanks for your help, Christie.

Christie, thanks for that additional link. What is interesting is that it doesn't happen with every course, which leads me to believe it's not my java version...if it was, wouldn't it happen with every course? <sigh> I wlll try the suggestion in that posting and then reach out to support if it is still being cranky.

I did actually open a service ticket with my LMS provider when this happened before, and the tech said the course worked just fine for her. Huh!

Thanks again for all of your guidance!!

Thanks so much for stopping in to share your experience, Brenda! We always recommend testing your course in the intended environment, for as the article states, "If you view an Articulate Storyline course on your local hard drive (or send it to someone else to view on their local hard drive), you'll encounter security restrictions from the computer, web browser, Flash Player, and network that'll cause various features of your content to fail.

And yes, Shari, please feel free to let us know if issues continue, and we'll see what more we can do to assist. :)

Hi Brenda, thank you so much for your suggestion. It worked! I thought I was losing my mind, lol.

It was very strange because I created one scene and duplicated it and all was viewing fine. Then all of the sudden I got grey bars on both sides of the screens that had been duplicated (when previewing), the original scene viewed fine. So I tried you suggestion of viewing the entire scene and it viewed perfectly in preview mode, and then all of the individual screens viewed perfectly!

I never saw that before, so I am so glad I found this post! :)
