I came across challenge 4 but what exactly is a "flat" design?

Hi Daniela, flat design is a graphical design style used in a lot of modern User Interfaces. None of the design elements (buttons, images) have shadows or highlights which makes them look 2-dimensional (flat) as opposed to 3-dimensional.  The Storyline 2 interface is an example of flat design.  I think it was developed originally to reduce the size of the interface elements so the apps would load faster.
