Why don't my layers and Menu items show?

Feb 03, 2019

I have built this course from a duplicated course, which I also had built from scratch, and the Layers, on the welcome slide, don't show when the relevant icon is selected.  The menu items also do not show.

Please help as this is quite urgent for me to finalise :(

Hi Julie

Thanks for that but I don't want my layers in the menu.  There are 2 distinct errors here...

1. the layers show as being blank when selected  from the welcome slide

2. the menu items do not show up as they have been designed in the Player

I have checked the triggers and cannot see why the layers aren't being displayed when selected.  I have no idea how to address the menu problem... I have selected the menu items I want displayed, in the player, and have never experienced this type of issue before.

I am completely stumped!

Cheers

Hi Kerry,

I did some troubleshooting and it looks like deleting Support Icon 1 (SuppIcon) fixes the problem so the layers are no longer blank. I have no idea why that icon is causing issues though unfortunately.

Also, it looks like a new tab named Menu was added in player properties. There's already an existing Menu tab (you'll notice there's two in that list) so you just need to check the box for that and it should be working as you expect. I would delete the extra one to avoid any confusion in the future :)

Hi Annie

You are a lifesaver!  I'm very grateful.

Another question...

In the Slide Properties I have selected the option "Resume Saved State' for each of my scenario slides.  I did this because I wanted to  remove the frustration of the user in having to repeat the scenarios they got correct, if they mange to get a scenario question wrong.

That is, their session will be ended the first time they get a scenario question wrong.  This means they need to do the course until they get all scenario questions right.  Therefore, it would be good for them to only have to pick up where they left off and the scenario questions they answered correctly are recorded to prevent them repeating the questions...

Long story...Have I selected the right option in the Slide Settings or should I change it to 'Automatically Decide'?

I have noticed that I return to the incorrect slide when testing the course and wonder if this is working the way I want it to???

Thanks in advance
K

Hello Kerry,

Thanks for letting us know what you are running into with your course now.

It sounds like you've made quite a few adjustments since you originally posted your .story file above.

In taking a look at that file, it looks like the slides are set to Automatically Decide, Results are reset when the user goes to try again and the Jump to Slide is not set.

Can you share an updated file with the steps to replicate what you are experiencing as well as the slide you are resuming on so that we can take a closer look? You can also share privately here if needed and it will be deleted when troubleshooting is completed.
