Breaking into Elearning

Oct 27, 2014

Hi, all!  I'm new here, so this may be a re-boot of a prior discussion, but with a twist. I have about twenty-five years of T&D experience in leadership and ID roles, plus OD and HR as a direct hire and contractor. Question:  Since an accident left me disabled with chronic jaw pain, talking hurts. I want to transition to mainly remote elearning development roles. What are my first few steps to make this leap, and which steps are absolute musts. vs "nice-to-do's"? My last eighteen- month project just ended, and I need to fast-track earning again. Thanks!

Hi Sue,

Like Matthew I'm sorry to hear about your accident.

You obviously have great L&D background and experience.   I think the important thing to think about is where you want to focus your talents.  Do you want to do a pure ID role where you just write scripts and course outlines but someone develops them?  Do you want to do a pure elearning building role where you take someone else's script and use your skills to build the course and make it work, or do you want to offer the whole package?

And of course there is not just elearning, but online learning, app development, video production etc.

Which area in elearning interests you most?
