Course Design Tools

Feb 22, 2013

Hi there,

I am designing some user training courses for our software products, and I'm finding it challenging to get into a good design mode.

In the past, I would write an outline, each bullet point translating to a few ppt slides, which I'd speak to in a live audience.

Now, I'm starting with same outline of topics I need to cover, and then fleshing it out into a script. But then I would like to allow the learner to follow their own path, so I'm trying to design the flow in a non-linear fashion. To do that, I'm doing a process flow diagram in Visio, with boxes representing screens of info and arrows outlining various paths.

I'm doing this both to show reviewers before I start work in Storyline, and to keep track of what I'm planning. But it gets messy and I'm pretty sure there are topics falling through the cracks.

Would any of you more experienced folks be willing to talk about your process for translating topics to flows to Storyline?

Thanks!

C.
