eLearning Best practice Guidelines

Apr 11, 2022

Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of creating an eLearning "Brand Book / Best Practice Guidelines" for our organisation. The objective of this is that our designers will all create eLearns with the same look and feel irrespective of who has created it. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience creating this within their organisations? A template or an example you can share would be awesome too!

Thanks :)

Hi, Scott,

If the company has a "look and feel" that it wants people to use, I suggest you create a "set up" course that people could start with.

For example, for one of my clients with strict brand guidelines, I had a Storyline file with the slide size, default fonts, color palette, and master layouts already set. I always started a new course using a copy of that file.

I've also seen such files with basic interaction slides  and question slides already set up. (Those kinds of slides could be in a "storage" scene, so developers could copy and paste the slides as needed, and then delete that scene before finalizing the course.)

If you've got an Articulate Team set up, you can also share templates.

In Rise, you can establish block templates. Those can only be directly shared within a Team. However, for non-team members, if you simply share a course that has all of the established blocks, anyone else can use those to create their own block templates.

Ideally, there should also be a style guide to provide appropriate guidance about language, types of images to use, etc.

Hi Judy,

I'm so sorry for the late reply, I posted this and then went on holiday and completely forgot. This is exactly what I'm looking to do in combination with a style guide so what I will likely do is once I've got the style guide sorted, build the templates / interactions etc in Storyline and Rise and distribute to our team. Thanks for your help :).
