Grading text

Dec 18, 2012

I teach a professional certification course and I want to build content in Storyline.  Part of what I need to ascertain is if the person knows why an answer is correct and/or the impact which is more an open text answer vs multiple choice.  Has anyone ever figured out a way to grade text responses?

Is there a way for you to do this with a scenario.

Jane and Joe are working on a project. Jane is trying to make a decision. Joe suggests x because y or a because b or x because c. You have them decide and work thru a scenario.

Alternately what about having a bunch of reasonings and use them as a drag and drop (matching) kind of activity.

I did this recently with words. You had to put the words in the correct order. I wanted them to type something in that was free text but this was easier to score. Here are a bunch of words and you pick them and put them into the spots you think they should go. If you had a lot of text that could get difficult but with 12 words and 5 "wrong" words it wasn't too much for the learner.

Hi Chuck, that is always an issue... Open answer questions exist in Storyline, they are called 'Fill in the blank' questions. The thing is that you need to still give the correct answer possibilities. However if the user doesn't supply one of the exact answers you deem correct it will say the answer is false... Not a reliable question type for mor than one or two words (or very specific answers) in my experience.
