How do you check accessibility in Articulate products?

Feb 13, 2024

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has good tips how to easily check Rise or Storyline courses for accessibility (text, colours, etc.) ? I know that some software has this built in. Is this something that Articulate is considering?

Hi Maribeth and welcome to the community! It's great to hear you're looking for ways to check that your courses are accessible.

When it comes to these checks, we often encourage people to design for accessibility right from the start, so you can catch as many issues early on and save yourself time in the long run. Our All About Accessibility article series has a lot of easy design and development tips that can help with this.

On our side, we've been looking for opportunities to have Rise 360 and Storyline 360 projects default to accessible standards where possible. While not every accessibility process can be automated, the more our apps can take care of for you, the more time and effort you'll save. You can check into those updates and more on the accessibility journey pages for Rise 360 and Storyline 360.

Of course, even with designing for accessibility up front, it's still important to do checks on your final course. This article shares general tips and advice on accessibility and useability testing. And if you're looking for advice specifically on screen reader testing, this article is a helpful place to start.

As for built-in accessibility check tools, while they're not currently on our feature roadmap they are features we're aware customers are curious about. Finding ways for automated checking tools to reliably identify all the accessibility issues in an e-learning course can be tricky. But we are aware of some of the more targeted accessibility check tools in other software that can at least help with the process. And they may inform how we look at accessibility updates in the future.
