Ideas for creating an index

Hi All,
I am currently developing a series of elearning courses composed of several modules within Storyline. I want each module to have a table of index, but I am extremely bored of the ideas of using buttons. Does anyone have any creative solutions for creating a course index?
I am not a graphic designer, so I do not have the ability to create graphics from scratch. I had this great idea to show books on a bookshelf and have each user click the different books. Sadly, when I started to map it out, it didn't look as good as I planned.
Any other ideas?

Are you asking for an index built into storyline or on the html page it produces?
Great question. This is an index that I am putting into Storyline. I am using variables to show users that they have completed each section.
What about some type of menu like the one I created in this template that I recently shared on the forum: http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/26306.aspx
The menu items could link to your different Storyline modules... and then the checkmark would appear once they've completed each section.
Just an idea!
Hi Ian - Here's an example of a custom menu created in Storyline. It doesn't use variables since the movies are loading in slide layers. I plan on rebuilding the menu so the movies are placed on slides rather than layers and that will require using variables to track completion.
There are also some creative examples in the Storyline Showcase.
What's your course topic? That could help generate some design ideas.
Ian,
What is the topic for your courses? Does the topic lend itself maybe a fun theme?
I think coming up with new index or menu ideas can be hard. After all, they are all just buttons in the end. It's how they look that makes them feel fun and not like a button.

Here's a Slide out tabbed menu. Each tab can have it's own sub-menu for each module/course. This style menu is built on the Master Slide.
