ATD offers online certification on Instructional design, and they are good. I completed one and now going for advance level. Their certificate is highly recognized in US, don't know if they offer Canadian based certification. However, I suggest if you have a look.
About course:
The expansion of instructional design capabilities has some designers, new and old, drowning in a sea of alluring possibilities. Don't get left behind! Go beyond the basic transmission of information to learners, and discover how to design e-learning events that achieve behavioral change and targeted performance levels.
Several Universities are/were part of the CACE consortium (Certificate in Adult and Continuing Education) most of them had at least some of the courses online. The CSTD has a list of programs they recognize. http://www.cstd.ca/?page=RecognizedPrograms
Hey Daniela - St FX universty offers a phenomenal course (Diploma in Adult Education) and although it's in class they do travel all over Canada to facilitate the modules - and it's broken out into short chunks. It's a fantastic program!
Kelly - nice to see others here from Halifax; I'm interested in starting an Articulate User Group for Halifax, so let me know if you'd be interested :)
Hey Ashley - I'm always interested in meeting people who share my interests. Looks like you like cats and eLearning so I'm in (although my disclaimer is that although I have 2 cats we do have a love, hate relationship). I added you on LinkedIn so feel free to shoot me a message anytime!

Thanks Mohammad. I have looked at ATD and it may work for me. Good to know you went through it. Thanks again!

Daniela - I agree on the ATD and CSTD programs (and also with St. FX, but the on-campus element is definitely a hinderance). Royal Roads has a program (http://www.royalroads.ca/prospective-students/graduate-certificate-instructional-design) and so does Mt. Royal (https://www.mtroyal.ca/ProgramsCourses/ContinuingEducation/teach/curriculum/).
