Is there a way to quiz more than one learner role in one elearning module

Dec 06, 2016

I am creating an elearning (in Storyline 2) that provides information on a process that requies multiple people to use as a team. The introduction and general information will be presented to everyone. Role specific information will be provided for each role. I know there are plenty of ways to make branching work. Here's my dilemma: what is the easiest way to provide a quiz with role specific questions that can be graded and tracked in the LMS? Do I Include the quiz the specific information in the branched information for each role? Or is there an alternative?

Hi Karen.

I have attached an example below of my approach to your question.

I chose to have a global assessment that can be accessed by everyone, regardless of their path, instead of adding a unique assessment for each branching path. I found that this uses the least amount of administrative effort when configuring the assessment(s) and the questions thereof.

I used a few question banks to separate the generic questions, and the role questions from each other. I then created a generic assessment overview page that branches to the appropriate questions based on a global variable named "role". The user sets the variable accordingly by selecting their role on the course welcome screen.

I hope this solution is feasible :)

Hi Karen. It sounds like an interesting design challenge for you, regardless of the solution you choose. I'm echoing some of the advice you've already been given, but from an instructional design standpoint, if the process you're teaching isn't utterly mission-critical/ life & death kind of content, and the differences in the process for the various roles aren't too dramatic, I think you might find that branching with role-specific practice interactions is a good approach. Focusing on creating role-specific practice activities and lots of good feedback along the way, will help drive learning while allowing you to focus the quiz on the more general steps shared by all the roles. Obviously, you've got a better grip on whether this is a workable approach for achieving your objectives, but just thought I'd offer some support for the idea of making a single quiz for everyone.

Whatever approach you decide to take, I also recommend testing out a prototype of your course and quiz(zes) on your LMS to make sure it's tracking and reporting properly. Good luck with your project!
