Object features (e.g. handles, dial arcs, etc.) disappearing

This is just an odd thing I've experience from time to time.  In an unpredictable fashion, objects on my slide lose their handles and/or dial arcs.  Once this occurs, I cannot get the missing features to reappear.  In other words, normally when I select an object such as a picture on my slide, handles will appear around the object allowing me to resize it.  Randomly, 1 or 2 of the objects on my slide will stop showing these handles.  If I hover where they should be, the cursor changes to show I can still resize, etc. but there is never a visual indication of the object even being select other than it being highlighted in the timeline.  This is extremely problematic with dials because my arc disappears.  I can hover where I think the dial should be and adjust it that way, but this is incredibly difficult to visualize

Has anyone else noticed this glitchy behavior?  And if so, is there a way to get it back?  I've tried copying and pasting objects, even the entire file, but nothing seems to work.  I do not want to have to recreate my dials, although I'm sure that'll fix it.
