Storyline "Scenes"
May 05, 2014
I don't mean to make a scene here (ha ha),
but I'm still trying to figure out exactly what the
purpose of Storyline "Scenes" are.
I'm currently working on a project that has
about 400 slides. And will probably have twice
that by the time I'm done.
But I only have "one" Scene.
Am I missing something here?
Q1. What is the purpose of a "Scene?"
Q2. Can I setup triggers that jump across Scenes?
That is, can I make a navigational trigger button
on Scene 1 that jumps to a place on Scene 5?
Q3. If my one project contains 7 scenes and I hit
"Publish"...does it save all 7 as "one" Storyline file?
Q4. If I set up my "Player" a certain way...will it display
those same features across all scenes?
Or is the Player setup unique to each scene?
Q5. Can "one" slide be a "scene?"
Q6. If need be, how do I go back and breakup my
large project into different scenes?
`````
Thanks in advance for making it all clear!
Hi Rand,
Q1: You can handle a "Scene" as a chapter
Q2: Yes - Just insert the trigger action: "Jump to scene" and you can navigate to the start of the referred scene
Q3: Yes, you will have 1 story-file
Q4: The Player will display all features for all slides but you can adjust the features like seekbar for each slide
Q5: Sure, one slide can be one scene
Q6: You'll insert a new scene and drag&drop the slides to the referred scene. That's all.
As above
Just a way to organise your build files.
Can be played in any order, to any logic you want.
I like to use the Preview function as I build, especially to check navigation and transitions. But previewing the entire story can be cumbersome. By breaking my story up into scenes, the "preview scene" option makes a nice manageable chunk to check.
Thanks everyone for all your input!
That answers a lot of questions!
Just one more bit of clarification.
Ralf, you wrote...
I'm wondering though if you can jump from one Scene to "anywhere"
in another Scene...not just to "the start of the referred Scene."
For navigational purposes, this is a must for me...as for example...
"Slide 24 in Scene 1" needs to jump to "Slide 52 in Scene 4."
Thanks again for the clarification!
You can use the "Jump to Slide" trigger to jump anywhere.
Hi Rand,
yes, you can jump to any place of a scene. Perhaps it is easier to explain it in that way:
Jump to Slide: You can choose any slide of the complete project as a destination point. The trigger to that slide sticks even if you move it to another scene.
Jump to scene: You will automatically jump to the starting point of the chosen scene.
Thanks Ralf!
That's just the answer I was hoping to hear!
All the best!
