Variables just don't work

Hi all,
I am experiencing a weird issue with my project. I have used a variable (that I am always using with my projects) called NextLayer that adds 1 to the variable when the user clicks the next button and subtracts 1 with the previous button. Usually it works quite well. Not so much this time. The layers simply do not show on some of the slides although I used the exact same triggers for other slides and it does work there. Strange, huh?
Could somebody have a look and tell me what I am overlooking? [Nevermind the layout, it got messed up when I copy+pasted the slides into a new project.]
Update: I forgot to mention that going backwards is also completely messed up, instead of going to the previous page (as defined in the triggers) it sometimes advances to the next slide instead or goes random ways.

have you traced out the value of the variable using %variableName%?
Have a look at the attached and see if that's what you wanted. For one thing, you never reset the variable on each slide, so I added a trigger to do that on the masterslide. Then there were some issues with triggers and conditions.

Thanks a lot, Curtis and Michael! Weird thing that in the rest of the project those triggers work fine and in this scene I just couldn't get it to work. I'll add the reset variable to the template!
