Animated GIF--Loop Just Once?
I created an animated GIF in Adobe Fireworks. It's a gauge with a needle that moves from the 6 o'clock position to the 12 o'clock position, using 16 frames ('states' in Fireworks parlance). I set the animation to run just ONCE; the needle rotates from 6 o'clock and stops at 12 o'clock. I tested the animated GIF in my Web browser and it works as expected.
When I insert the animated GIF onto a Storyline slide, however, the animation loops forever. It loops in Preview mode and also when I publish to Web (HTML) output.
Does Storyline recognize and respect the 'looping' setting contained within an animated GIF file?
Hi, everyone!
I have some great news to share. We just released an update for Storyline 360. In Build 3.90.32850.0, we’ve included important fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed is:
- GIFs didn't replay on revisited slides that were configured to reset to their initial states
Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You’ll find our step-by-step instructions here!
Thanks for sharing :)

I have reported this issue to tech support. There should be no way that animated GIFs should not work the way they do in HTML5 and it's ridiculous that this problem has not been resolved yet.
Thanks for reaching out Joseph. I see where you have submitted your support ticket (00486197) on this.

Hi Justin,
Just wanted to share my instance in storyline. I have created a Game. In this activity when I attempt wrong option at 1st time, Animated Gif play from start to end properly with audio. But when I attempt again 2nd wrong option then the same animated gif is not playing from starting...it appear as a static image but at the same time audio play correctly. It would be grate help to me if you look into this. Thanks
Hello Komal!
It sounds like you're running into a bug that we already have logged. We are also seeing non-looping GIFs aren't replayed when a slide that is set to Reset to Initial State is revisited. Our team is currently working on a fix so we'll update you as soon as the fix is shipped.
Thank you for sharing that you are impacted by this bug!
Hi Joseph,
If you'd like to share another example, please feel free to send it along to our team here. We can also keep you updated via the case in addition to the forum thread here.

Dominique, I have submitted this as a bug to get fixed.
Hi Joseph and Dominique,
I do see the issue is filed with our QA team, and that they're taking a look at it. I don't yet have an update to share, but once we have information we'll post here in the forums and then those users that mentioned submitting a case will also receive information via their case as well. Thank you both for your patience with this particular issue and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.

This isn't like normal help desk support.

Thanks, Bob, I did create my own workaround by using MP4s instead of GIF, but it kinda defeats the whole point of using alpha channel animated graphics to use MP4 because the alpha channel is lost.
Hi Joseph,
Just to clarify, we don't share dates or timelines in regards to bug fixes, new releases, features etc. in the forums or any other public venues, but it is something our team is keeping track of internally and once we have information to share it will be posted here and made available to all.
If you have any further questions, we're happy to assist and appreciate the feedback in regards to our bug process and how we communicate that in the forums.
