Big Red X in Story View
When I select "Story View" to view scenes, a big red X appears. I have been working for about 6 hours in slide view and wanted to view the aggregate. Why did the red X appear and how do I get rid of it? I'm working on Articulate 360. Thanks!

Hi Michelle, I'm afraid your file is corrupted, try to save it with a different name, good luck

It normally means you have run out of resources, restarting storyline should fix it. I doubt it is corrupted.

I've been experiencing this whenever I try to edit text. It's driving me crazy! I've done everything I can think of: upgraded my O/S and checked for all updates. Uninstalled and reinstalled several times. Ran malware software.
Nothing. I've saved the project with a new name and it even happens in a brand new file.

Hi Ren,
Thanks. So far nothing has worked and I need to send log files off next. Thankfully, my work PC is behaving for the moment. Fingers crossed this is an easy fix once we figure out why it's happening at all.

This is happening to me and sometimes I can get around it and sometimes I can't. But it is making me crazy! I fill out the popup that asks "What I was doing at the time" but I need help. It seems to be more frequent. I have some bigger projects and maybe in a .story for several hours. Please HELP!

HI Lynda
SL uses a lot of computer resources so try closing down any apps that you don't need. Save the SL file > close > reboot and reopen SL and see if that fixes it.

I did that and this is the message I get:
The last file I saved "under another name", which I can open, has a lot of
work that needs to be done to it. It is really discouraging. I did about
4 hours of work and now I have to redo what I did this morning.*Lynda *

Hi,
My solution was an odd one. On the Design Tab drop down the font options. On the very bottom, deselect Modern Text.
That fixed it for me.
Good luck!

Hi Lynda,
So sorry to hear you're coming across this roadblock! I've opened a case on your behalf with our support engineers where you'll hear from someone on the team soon. They'll do everything they can to determine what's causing that error to come up!
In the meantime, you can try to see if you have an older file in your temp folders. Here's how to check:
- Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
- Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.
- Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
- Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
Thanks so much for popping back in to share your solution with the community, Tziporo. That could certainly help someone that may run into this conversation.
It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

Oh no! I deleted it from this end too! Things that make you go hmmmmmm

Thank you, Leslie. I hope the trick works!

Thank you to all who replied! I have tried everything. Someone even
mentioned save as you go! Lol, That really doesn't do any good when you
loose the whole thing. I would have to save under a different file name
every thirty or forty minutes. I guess that would be better than having to
recreate 20 slides!Again, thank you all so much!

We had a couple of instances when this occurred and came up with the following workaround:
1. Close Storyline as soon as the problem occurs.
2. Re-open Storyline and open and go through the slides one by one, clicking on each slide until the big red cross appears, and note the slide number.
3. Close Storyline again and reopen the project - remain in story view, do not open any individual slides.
4. Delete the corrupt slide from inside story view.
5. Close and re open the project, you should now be able to insert a new slide in place of the deleted one and your project will be free of corruption and the dreaded red cross!
I'm not sure if all of the above steps are necessary, but this has worked for us a couple of times now, hope this helps someone else.
