Closed Captions not working in Storyline 360

Hello-

I noticed this topic has come up before.  My course is not showing the CC option, even though I have the captions box selected in the player.  Are there any ways to correct this issue?

Meg

  • Hi everyone,

I have some exciting news to share! We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 82, we’ve included important fixes and new features.

One of the fixes we’ve included is:

Closed captions in Google Chrome might not load initially or when resuming a course.

To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let me know if you need additional help!

  • Have you set a trigger to display the caption when the timeline starts so they turn on or are you clicking the CC button and they are not displaying.

Thank you for your help.  I have selected the Captions box under Controls in the Player for the course.  In the player, it appears that it is activated based on the view in the player, but when I preview and publish the course, the captions are not available.  I have not set up any triggers, but I didn't remember having to do that when I used captions in other courses?

        Hi Meg

is the CC icon there and when you click it doesn't display the captions or the icon itself is not displaying?

The CC icon is not there to click, even though I have captions "checked" in the player.

  • Hi Meg,

If you've already checked that the CC icon is enabled in the player and that those slides have audio, and you're still having trouble, it would help to take a look at the .story file in question!

Are you able to share a copy of your file with us? If so, you can upload at this link using the Add Attachment button or you always have an option to share privately with our Support Engineers. Either way, we'll delete it when done testing.

Thank you Ashley, I will share the story file privately to the Support Engineers link!

  • Thanks, Meg! I see you're working with Cleo, so you're in excellent hands to get to the bottom of this!

  • Hi all. I encounter the same issue. And most puzzling: in a version from 23.7.20  cc were working fine. Now I cant get them to work even in a new test version. I don't remember a version update since 23.7. Any suggestions?

  • I came across the same problem. I set the captions on player , but does not show on the preview.

  • Hello Shaza!

I'm happy to help figure out a fix!

It sounds like you've already added the closed captioning on the player, but the captions aren't showing up in Preview.  Have you created closed captioning for all the media in your course, or do only some media have closed captioning?

The closed captions will only appear if you've added captions for the media on the slide. If you're using text-to-speech as the media, there is a button to generate closed captions. This is what it looks like.

If you'd like to share your file, I'm happy to take a look. Either attach it to this discussion or upload it to me privately!
