Closing a storyline block
I’m trying to insert a storyline block in a Rise course. When I preview on my phone, there doesn’t seem to be a way to get back out of the storyline block and back to the rise page. Is this a bug or normal behavior? I tried adding an exit button to the slide and it didn’t help. Does anyone have any tips for this?
Thanks in advance!
Hi, everyone!
I have some great news to share! We have released a new update for Storyline 360 (Build 3.78.30680.0). An enhancement that's included in this update:
- Storyline blocks in Rise 360 courses now display full-screen on mobile devices when player controls are turned off.
Please update Storyline 360 to the latest version to take full advantage of this feature.
If you have any questions, please let us know, and we'll be happy to help! You can reach out here or privately in a support case.

There is usually an X that allows you close out the Storyline window and return to the Rise course.

Thanks! I'm not seeing an x. I'm going to submit a ticket.

I'd like it to close automatically, but when I'm adding an ' exit course' trigger, the Rise module is closed instead of only the embedded Storyline. Is there another way to do this?
Hi Pascal,
Can you tell me more about how you want the Storyline Block to "close" when the learner completes it? What would you want the learner to see? What if the learner wants to go back and view the Storyline Block again?
With more details on what you have in mind, I can suggest some design ideas that could work for your course!

Hi Alyssa, this is about Safari.
I want the user to return to Rise (continue) after completing the SL block without having to use the ‘X’. The user can choose if he wants to proceed with the next block or visits the SL block (or other previous blocks again.

Hi Pascal,
The X button in the upper-right corner is how the learner returns to the lesson when using mobile Safari. Can you tell me more about why you don't want the learner to use the X button?

I'm running into this issue now. We have a course that uses a SL file to do a timed interaction. On mobile it does open up "full screen", In portrait view this means that the background is showing and the X to close and be able to advance can easily get lost on the background. We want to add a button in SL that allows them to exit SL but it doesn't seem to work with the exit trigger.
Repost because my previous was "Reported".- CNavarroFormer Staff
Hi Tim, there isn't a way to add a close button in the Storyline course to close the SL block in Rise 360. Thank you very much for the screenshot showing that the X button can be lost in the background. I will share this with my team, and I will circle back if we make any changes that can help.

Thanks, Chino. Even more jarring is that in landscape mode the button is nonexistent. We've had to find another way to provide the functionality.

Has there been another update to how Rise handles SL blocks? We made some changes to a Rise course and republished yesterday and now the blocks don't close when you hit X. We have to hit it like 10 times for it to register. Very frustrating. This is on Android running Chrome. The original version of the course (from January) worked as expected - you could close the SL block at any time using the X button. I know it's not the SL blocks, because some of them were not updated for this latest course.

Same problem here. iphone Safari version. SL file is opened in full screen mode. X is visible, but nothing happens when trying to close.
Hello Cas and Nina,
Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.
If your courses are currently hosted on an LMS, please try to test the course in SCORM Cloud using the same devices to determine if the behavior is LMS-specific. If the close (X) button works in one attempt in SCORM Cloud, contact your LMS provider to report the behavior.
If your courses still require multiple attempts at tapping the close (X) button in SCORM Cloud, open a case with our support team here so we can review if any recent changes were made that could have affected the functionality. Note that for this test, we recommend testing using up-to-date devices if possible to maximize compatibility with the course.
