Compatibility between Storyline 360 and older version

I need help restoring compatibility between Storyline 360 and an older version.

When I open a file (that has been edited in 360) in a previous version I get the message "This project won't open because it uses features that aren't available in this version of Storyline. The features in use are: Background audio" 

I have:

  • Gone through the steps with the chatbot and none were an issue(accessible result slide, custom feedback theme colors, combined result slide template)
  • Background audio is disabled
  • There are no audio triggers
  • The previous version I am using is the most recent update 3.20

I would be grateful for any ideas on how to resolve this!!

    The first question I have is where these files stored on a cloud? Or were they stored on your hard drive? Cloud storage can do some strange thing to Articulate files. 

    Next do you have another person that can try to open one of these? It may be something with your computer. I have updated files from 5 years agon and never had this issue. 

    I would ask to see one and see if I can open it, but I know most people don't like to do that. 

    I would suggest putting in a help ticket. Articulate will ask for the files to check it.

    I don't think that is going to work, as typically new versions of software can be backwards compatible, but I'm fairly certain it is never the case that software is "forwards compatible".

    It's like if you tried to run a Windows 10 application on Windows 7...it just isn't going to work. 

    Perhaps I'm wrong or misread your question/problem. 

    Otherwise- your best bet would be to restore the previous/un-edited version of the file and use that moving forward in your older version of Articulate.

    Thanks for reaching out. I see my teammate, Darrell, confirmed that the error you encountered was expected. The course was last saved using Storyline 360 Update 99, and you're trying to open the project using an outdated version of Storyline 360, which does not support the background audio feature. For reference, background audio was introduced in Storyline 360 Update 74, so earlier versions won't be able to open files that use or reference this feature.

    Please feel free to continue working with Darrell in your support case if needed! It looks like they've sent you an updated file.
