Completion not submitted correctly to LMS
Hello,
We have identified a bug related to Rise.
If participants pause their course, either intentionally or unintentionally, the completion is not submitted correctly to the LMS. We are using Totara as our LMS.
For example, we have noticed this happens if a participant:
- Switches networks, e.g., from Wi-Fi to mobile data
- Loses internet connection
- Pauses the course and resumes later
The problem is that everything appears "normal" to the user. Even if the user switches networks, they can still complete the course, achieve a passing result, and assume it’s finished. However, the LMS does not register the course as 100% completed.
Example:
A participant completes 2 out of 4 chapters of a course while connected to Wi-Fi. Then, without realizing it, the participant switches to mobile data and completes the last 2 chapters. The participant passes the course and returns to the LMS, but the course is still not marked as 100% completed in the LMS.
We have found that if we log in as the user in the LMS and open the course, the user's progress is saved up until the point where they switched networks.
For your information, we have noted that those who experience this issue are typically using Android phones with Chrome as the browser.
Have others encountered this problem, and what steps have you taken to resolve it?
Hi MonicaBiometria,
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand your courses are encountering difficulties resuming correctly. I'd like to ask a few questions to understand what's happening:
- Which learning standard did you select when you published your course? If you used SCORM 1.2, have you tried checking your LMS logs to see if your course is exceeding the suspend data limit?
- Can you replicate the issue by hosting your course on a different LMS like SCORM Cloud?
If you can consistently replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, please open a case with our support team here so we can request a copy of your course for testing. We'll delete if afterwards!

I'm a LMS Admin, and all Learning Management Systems that I have worked on, will time out due to student inactivity. the timeout period can be set by the Admin.
If there is a timeout or the internet connection is lost, this is not a Rise bug.
